Art in Norfolk

Norfolk has one of the richest visual-art cultures in the East of England, from the medieval painted screens of its rural churches to the contemporary galleries of Norwich, the county's creative capital. The Norwich School of Painters — John Crome and John Sell Cotman among them — made the county a landmark in British landscape art two centuries ago, and that habit of looking hard at big skies, flat fields and shifting coastal light still runs through the work of Norfolk's painters, printmakers and photographers today.

Use this guide to find artists based across Norfolk — in Norwich, King's Lynn, the north Norfolk coast around Cromer and Wells, and the Broads — alongside the galleries, museums and studios where you can see their work, and the exhibitions and open studios coming up across the county.
