Mike Dodd
Mike Dodd studied Graphics at Chelsea School of Art from 1968 to 1972. Following a career in commercial illustration and a move to live in southern France in 2002, he completed a Masters degree in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design (UWIC) in September 2008. In the summer of 2009 he made a 1000 mile, six week raft trip down the Mississippi River. He returned from France to live in north Norfolk, and is a member of the Arborealists group of artists.
His 2026 exhibitions include Wighton 26: Undercurrent at All Saints Church in Wighton, The Arborealists at Staverton Park at the Minories in Colchester, and Biophilia, which tours to hospitals in Taunton, Bournemouth and Bristol.
He was shortlisted for the Coastwise Creative Competition, shown at the Simon Aspinall Centre, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Cley in 2025, and for the Sir John Hurt Art Prize at Adrian Hill Fine Art, Holt in 2022.
Artist Statement
One aspect of my work is concerned with the construction of site-specific, mainly ephemeral installations in outdoor environments. Another is the representation of trees and other natural phenomena through drawing and other more direct methods.
I am attempting with all my work to encapsulate complex ideas within a simplicity of form and to let nature, as far as possible, speak for itself.
