Sara Kenyon
Sara Kenyon is an artist living and working in rural Norfolk. She was born in Cambridge and moved to Yorkshire at a very early age, where she went to school and spent her time out on the North York Moors and exploring the dales.
After studying Art at both O level and A level she went to Nottingham College to pursue a career in teaching with Art as a main subject. She returned to her roots in East Anglia over 30 years ago and now lives in rural Norfolk. In 2011 she gave up teaching in schools to become a full time artist, dividing her time between painting and teaching watercolour painting courses to adults at various venues around the county.
Her work has been exhibited in Yorkshire, in galleries in Norfolk and in Tokyo, and has been published in art magazines. Her original paintings are reproduced as prints and greetings cards.
Artist Statement
My name is Sara Kenyon and I am an artist living in rural Norfolk.
Painting is for me an obsession, I can't imagine life without it and I firmly believe that it is a therapy, good for the soul and it definitely makes you become more observant of the world around you.
Having always had a passion for the natural world, its birds, animals and flowers provide me with constant inspiration for my artwork, as does the beautiful North Norfolk coast where I find subjects for my seashore paintings.
Although watercolour is my main preference, I often use a variety of mixed media including acrylic, coloured pencil, ink and sometimes gold leaf.
In my seashore art I love to introduce texture, so you will see a little bit of sand mixed with the paint or a shell adorned with polyfilla which creates very effective barnacles!
I feel very lucky that my home and studio is surrounded by a wildlife friendly garden where birds and animals visit all year round, no doubt encouraged by nest boxes on almost every tree and feeding stations dotted around. Flowers and weeds for the insects are usually left to grow where they feel happy, (within reason) so consequently I am never short of painting subjects.
My studio is my happy place, a little oasis away from a mad world.
