Paul Levy
Paul Levy is visual artist working in ink, acrylic paint and digital media. In his work he explores how we make sense of the world and is particularly interested in showing coexisting realities overlapping each other. Text is often present, sometimes readable, or in the form of an additional texture.
Artist Statement
I work in themes and contrasting media and usually in long series of works – digital neo-pop art pictures, ink drawings in for example the sixty drawings series and the cardboard works of On Jones Beach. These are mostly open-ended sets that explore the ideas of formal repetition, poetic reality and the lyrical aspects of pop art.
In the last few years I have incorporated sculpture into my practice, inspired by the reusable nature of cardboard packaging and its poetic and expressive possibilities. The objects in On Jones Beach arise from creating the world of a poem, or fragments of a poem, in three-dimensional form. The series title is from a poem by Bill Albert.
