Amanda Sinclair
Amanda Sinclair is an intuitive, full-time painter based at Haylett's Studio in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. Born in Lincolnshire in 1973, she moved to Norfolk in her early teens, fully adopting the region as her true home and the place where she raised her family. Amanda’s lifelong devotion to creativity began in childhood, where she spent her time making art out of anything she could find. Before transitioning to painting full-time, she spent her earlier career in health and social care, where she passionately wove art into her community work to help others experience the creative freedom of paint. Today, she works across an array of surfaces—including canvas, paper, and board—using acrylic, oil, mixed media, soft pastel, charcoal, and watercolour ink to bring her expressive visions to life.
Artist Statement
"Haylett's Studio—a thatched cob cottage on the Norfolk Broads—is both my home and my place of making. Living here, I am immersed in a landscape of water, sky, and shifting light, where quietness and wildness exist side by side. My work is an intuitive response to this environment. Rather than depicting the landscape directly, I explore its atmosphere, its stillness, movement, and underlying energy. I seek to capture something felt rather than seen: the shimmer of water, light bouncing through the leaves, and the sound of birdsong. Colour plays a central role in my practice. I use it instinctively and emotionally, allowing it to build, dissolve, and re-emerge to create images that feel both familiar and otherworldly. The process is physical and responsive, with each piece evolving through moments of control and release. At its core, my work is about finding the quiet magic in the everyday, where memory and imagination meet."
