Isabel Lowdell
Isabel Lowdell (born 2003) is an emerging artist and First Class BA Fine Art Graduate from Norwich University of the Arts, who works across sculpture and performance. Alongside her studio practice, she creates collaborative needle felting workshops, curates performance events ('SPOTLIGHT' series) and is interested in building playful experiences that invite audiences to become part of the work rather than simply observe it. Recently published in 'Storehouse #31: Nostalgia' (April 2026), and recently to be exhibiting in 'Free Range' (July 2026) Truman's Brewery, 'Passing Pride' (July 2026) Assembly House, and 'Bold Voices' (July 2026) Collaborative Music Video Project, Moosey Gallery. Recipient of the Cromer Arts Space Bursary Scheme 2026.
Artist Statement
I make sculptures that become alive through performance.
Working across sculpture, moving image and installation, I use handcrafted costumes, prosthetics and soft sculptural forms to explore communication, adaptation and belonging.
My work is inspired by swimming, aquatic life and my queer experience, imagining encounters between unlikely characters as a way of asking what happens when words are no longer enough. Humour sits at the centre of my practice, creating space for audiences to engage with ideas of transformation, identity and survival. I am interested in sculpture not as a static object, but as something that moves, performs and creates conversation.
