Helen Breach
Helen Breach is a multi-discipline artist based in Castle Acre, Norfolk, working across sculpture, ceramics, drawing, printmaking, painting and collage. She came to art from an architectural background and holds an MA in Drawing from Norwich University of the Arts. She is a member of the West Norfolk Artists Association.
Her work has been shown at the Raveningham Sculpture Trail, at undercurrent at All Saints Church in Wighton, and at the Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail, and an etching of hers was included in The Director's Cut at the Imprint Art Fair. She takes part in North Norfolk Open Studios, opening her studio in Castle Acre, and she also runs life drawing sessions.
Artist Statement
A slight obsession with life-drawing, leading to anatomical studies, leading to morbid and surreal diversions. Recent works have developed from images and stories in dreams creating 'poetic abstraction' artworks reflecting a subconscious state - perhaps a window into my deepest self. Plentiful colour in paintings, dramatic black tones in prints. I enjoy the contrast between of unmeditated movements in painting and the organised discipline of an aquatint. Sculptural works in the past included working with fluorescent acrylic sheet with an emphasis on interpreting the world of birds into my own bright flocks of imagination. Recently creating bronzes has been an empowering experience. An underlying use of recycled materials is also a major source for inventive sculptures. My practice thrives on diversity in technique, subject and approach. Exploration and experiment is always paramount - there is so much to learn!
