Krys Leach

Born in Sydney but raised in London, I was taught by Kyffin Williams RA before attending Norwich School of Art. Although I've been painting since childhood, I studied photography and pursued a career in television. I've been exhibiting professionally since 1996 and shown all over England and parts of the Irish Republic. There are examples of my work in a number of private collections around the world. I now live in North Norfolk.

Artist Statement

Much of my work is inspired by travel and is distinctive for its rich colour and innovative techniques. I work principally in oils on stretched canvas or canvas board and often includes some texturing - usually marble dust or tissue paper. Sometimes this builds into three dimensions with the judicious use of cut-outs, masks and found objects. I tend to work in series, developing a theme, subject or technique until it yields all its potential. The results vary in size between several feet or just a few inches. Originally concentrating on landscapes and maritime subjects, in recent years I've gained a modest reputation for collectable figure work. The connection between some of these subjects might seem tenuous but they're united by the elements that inspired them all: colour, texture and light.
