Paeony Lewis

Paeony Lewis uses alternative, experimental photography to encourage us to ponder our relationship with the natural world. Based in Norwich, Paeony’s art is informed by an MA in Fine Art, underpinned by a BSc in Environmental Sciences. She is particularly drawn to the materiality and unpredictability of cameraless, analogue photographic techniques that interact directly with nature. Her work with water is often incorporated into conceptual installations that explore a deeper, more emotional way of seeing and feeling the environment. Recent exhibitions have explored the nebulous concept of ‘thin places’ and lingering belief in ancient springs and sacred places. Alongside this more abstract work, Paeony also researches and creates art that raises awareness of specific ecological issues, such as the precarious habitat of chalk streams in Norfolk.
