Elena Genovese

Elena Genovese is a Fine Art Graduate from Norwich University of the Arts who's practice responds to the relationship between nature, pattern and storytelling. Working primarily in acrylic, pencil, and ink, she creates surreal, dreamlike worlds where organic structures such as roots, veins and cellular forms intertwine with folklore and internet horror. Her practice draws on the strange familiarity of the natural world, bringing together the microscopic and the vast to create environments that feel both organic and otherworldly. Through colour, layered imagery and intricate patterns, her paintings and drawings explore the boundaries between the beautiful and the unsettling, inviting viewers into her own view of the world.

Artist Statement

Genovese’s practice depicts the interconnectedness of nature, pattern and storytelling. Working primarily in acrylic, she creates dreamlike environments shaped by organic structures such as roots, veins and cellular structures. By connecting the microscopic with the vast, the work reveals a sense of unity within the natural world.

Drawing from folklore and internet horror stories, Genovese blends these narratives with organic imagery to create uncanny, otherworldly spaces. Through colour and layered imagery, her work has a sense of depth and mystery, reflecting the spiritual and unsettling qualities found within nature. The resulting painted worlds invite viewers to pause, look closer and consider what might exist beyond the familiar.
