Janine Everitt
Janine Everitt is a fine artist based in Wymondham, Norfolk, working across printmaking, photography and sculpture. Everitt has spent a large part of her life living and working overseas, in East Asia, the Americas and India.
Originally trained as a theatre and television set designer, Everitt makes work that explores the human condition, often introducing a physical or psychological disturbance that contradicts expectations. Bodies of work have previously drawn on a Naturalization Certificate from 1894 and on the nineteenth-century workhouse at Wicklewood in Norfolk, where the names of children are carved into the Victorian bricks.
Everitt completed an MA in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts in 2019, with distinction, and was awarded the Fairhurst Gallery Prize.
Artist Statement
My current practice sets out to explore our fragile environment through experiments with clay, celebrating the quiet power found in natural forms through materiality and preservation.
I try to create imagery which suggests new ways of seeing and challenges preconceived ideas. I aim to disrupt and bring about a reorientation of thought and experience, confronting tensions between beauty and destruction, awareness and denial.
