Dianne Randle
Dianne Randle is a textile artist based in Norwich, Norfolk, creating contemporary felted wall art and sculptural vessels. Her work explores the tactile, expressive qualities of wool fibres, drawing inspiration from the natural world.
In her wall art, Dianne captures the coastal landscape through rich, layered compositions. Painterly fibres flow to the edges of the pieces, evoking deep waters, ocean currents and tidal movement. She embraces vibrant colour and surface texture, using wool fibres much like paint. Created from layers of merino wool needle-felted onto linen, each piece is led by the inherent shrinkage of wool fibres during felting, allowing tactile surfaces and organic textures to emerge.
Dianne’s sculptural vessels suggest both strength and fragility, echoing the rhythms of the sea and the quiet beauty of erosion. Their physical presence and hollow form evoke ocean-worn pebbles, rock pools, and coral carved by time.
Each piece is handmade using 100% merino wool – a natural, sustainable material. The unpredictable nature of the felting process enhances the sculptural qualities of her work, resulting in distinctive, tactile surfaces and organic forms.
Dianne studied Textiles at Norwich University of the Arts and has had a long career teaching Art and Textiles in schools, colleges, and teacher training. Her practice reflects a deep understanding of fibre, form and surface, rooted in traditional techniques yet interpreted in a fresh and personal style.
