Victoria Fenn
An artist exploring memory, landscape, and place, her practice is deeply rooted in a lifelong connection to the Cambridgeshire Fens, where she was born and raised. After studying Three-dimensional Design, specialising in silversmithing and metalwork at Camberwell College of Arts, she established a successful career in garden design. Following a move from London to North Norfolk, eight years spent raising three children and renovating a 17th-century farmhouse reignited her creative practice through hands-on engagement with traditional tools, materials, and construction techniques.
Her family's generations-long relationship with the Fenland landscape informs work that reflects its layered histories and striking contradictions. Beneath the fertile peat soils of this intensively farmed landscape lie remarkably preserved traces of past civilisations, particularly at archaeological sites such as Flag Fen and Must Farm. Inspired by these discoveries, she creates sculptural works that evoke both personal and collective memory, revealing hidden narratives and exploring enduring connections between people, landscape, and time.
Artist Statement
At the heart of my practice, I am a storyteller. Through sculptural objects, I explore how landscapes and materials carry the imprint of human lives, preserving fragments of memory long after their original purpose has been forgotten. I am interested in the stories objects accumulate and how they continue to evolve as they are buried, unearthed, inherited, or reinterpreted.
My work draws on the language of archaeology, creating forms that seem both familiar and elusive. Existing somewhere between tool, vessel, relic, and ritual object, they resist fixed interpretation, inviting viewers to imagine their own histories and associations.
