Linda Chapman

My work explores the shifting boundary between the seen and the felt — the moment when an image becomes more than representation and begins to suggest memory, emotion, or dream. I build abstract environments that invite quiet reflection and personal interpretation. Photography remains at the heart of my practice, but I treat it as a material rather than a medium — something to cut, layer, or reconstruct in a natural way. Often transforming still images into spatial experiences but only with what is natural, like light, reflection and refraction and not with computer manipulation. I’m interested in how abstraction can evoke a sense of presence, how fragments of form and texture can suggest stories without ever fully revealing them. Ultimately, my practice is an exploration of perception itself and how art can turn the intangible into something we can almost touch.
