Josephine Johnson
Josephine Johnson grew up in Essex and took her art foundation course at Colchester Institute of Art in the early 1990s, going on to gain a degree in graphic design at Brighton University. After several years working as a graphic designer in London she moved to rural Norfolk, where she brought up her family and set up the design partnership Johnson Design.
She came to painting in recent years and has developed it alongside her graphic design work. She paints in oil on wood panel and on canvas, from a garden studio in rural Norfolk.
Artist Statement
Colour is my inspiration and I find its abundance in the flowers and landscapes that I paint. I continually endeavour to capture light and contrast with a balance of form and composition, always seduced by the interactions of the many colours I find on my palette.
I work in my garden studio in the middle of rural Norfolk, constantly inspired by my cottage garden, the local countryside and our beautiful coastline through the seasons.
