Becket's Chapel (May-Nov)

Becket's Chapel is a community arts venue in the centre of Wymondham and, from May to November each year, the home of Wymondham Arts. It is a Grade I listed building whose earliest parts date from the 12th century, and one of the town's most important heritage assets.

The chapel had fallen into serious disrepair and sat on Historic England's at-risk register until Historic Norfolk bought it in September 2022 and carried out a programme of restoration and repair, work that won an AABC Conservation Award at the 2025 Civic Trust Awards. What that produced is a tall, bright, white-walled hall under an open medieval roof, hung for art.

Two organisations make it work. Historic Norfolk owns and runs the building and hires it out for concerts, talks, markets, receptions and other events through the rest of the year. From May to November the exhibition season belongs to Wymondham Arts, run by Wymondham Arts Forum, a charity whose purpose is to bring art in all its forms to Wymondham. Artists and groups book the chapel week by week, and the Forum helps them with every part of an exhibition, from hanging the show to the private view, stewarding, sales recording and settlement.

The result is a programme that changes almost weekly through the season, taking in painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and photography, by individual artists, art societies and collectives from across Norfolk.
