Art in Sudbury
Suffolk
Sudbury's place in British art is secure: it was the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough, and Gainsborough's House - his childhood home - is now a major gallery and the National Centre for Gainsborough, newly expanded with a landmark print studio. The town sits in the Stour Valley, the soft, watery landscape that shaped both Gainsborough and Constable.
Use this guide to find artists based in and around Sudbury - including the Stour Valley villages of Long Melford, Lavenham and Nayland on the Suffolk–Essex border - alongside the galleries and exhibitions on now in Constable and Gainsborough country.
