Glynis Hughes

Glynis completed her Art Foundation at Braintree College, then a 3-year Fashion & Design course split between Bristol Polytechnic and Somerset College of Art, qualifying as a textile designer. She worked as a freelance designer for an agent in London, selling designs to Japan and America but always preferred to paint.

She taught at Braintree College, North Essex Adult Education and West Suffolk College and helped organise many community projects including ‘Branching Out’ and ‘The Big Draw’.

She currently co-runs a lifedrawing class and is a long-standing member of Suffolk Art Society and other art groups. She has had several solo exhibitions and her work has been sold here and abroad.

Artist Statement

I planned to do my A Levels at College in the 1970s but was introduced to the Art Department and they encouraged me to do an Art Foundation instead. Probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I work in a variety of media and love experimenting with textures and colour. I love the countryside and animals, especially hares, but I also enjoy painting quirky images that make people smile.
