Richard Thomas

Richard Thomas trained in Brighton and Leicester in the 1970s. He began his working life in education as an art teacher in secondary schools and moved up through more senior roles to become a headteacher, and finally Executive Director of a headteacher organisation as well as an educational consultant. Those demanding roles left him little time for painting until he retired. He has lived in Lavenham since 1994.

He originally worked in oils and pastels on figurative subjects. He now works in acrylics and occasionally watercolours, specialising in landscape, and paints the Suffolk and Norfolk coasts, the Lake District and Cornwall.

He was elected to Suffolk Art Society in 2023, one of four new members chosen from the seventeen artists who showed at the society's selection day at Holy Trinity Church in Long Melford.
