Juliet Lockhart

Juliet Lockhart is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and educator whose studio is at Earl Soham, Suffolk. She works thematically, project by project, building narratives around people and places, with a recurring focus on voices that have been lost or silenced. She works in cloth, paper and found objects, and through textiles, collage and sculpture.

She is a PhD candidate in the Fine Art department at the University of Suffolk. Her practice-led research: Between Worlds: a speculative construction of the childhood of the Suffolk artist Mary Beale, 1633 - 1699 through a collaborative dialogue with her birthplace, centres on translating the work of that artist, writer, educator, collaborator and businesswoman into multidisciplinary artworks whilst seeking parallels within her own life and practice. She studied Textile Design at West Surrey College of Art, Fine Art at University College Suffolk and has a MA in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Essex.

She previously established and ran the project Art in Mind, delivering museum and library-based art courses for people experiencing mental-health difficulties which led to her founding Lockarts, an arts in mental health charity. She has been a recipient of the Anna Airey Award, a Firstsite Collectors' Group Bursary Award, and project funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
