Anna Boon

Originally from Cornwall, Anna Boon settled in Suffolk twenty years ago with her young family. After juggling family life with studying, she graduated from Colchester School of Art with a Fine Art degree in 2008. Based in Nayland, she works as a sculptural artist and tutor, teaching drawing and acrylic painting to adults and running weekly painting classes. Her practice spans figurative sculpture — made from recycled fabrics hardened with a non-toxic fabric hardener and finished in bronze, iron, slate or stone effects, as well as jesmonite and cold-cast metals — and semi-abstract acrylic paintings inspired by the colours, textures, movement and light of the environment. She is a member of Colchester Art Society.

Artist Statement

My sculptural work explores the expressive potential of the human form through semi-abstract figures that evoke movement, emotion, and presence. Using recycled textiles and non-toxic resin, I create enduring forms that retain the fluidity of fabric and gesture. Influenced by life drawing and a fascination with bodies in motion, I capture transitional moments—a turn, a shift, a pause. These figures are dynamic, suggesting stories, relationships, and inner worlds. Finished with bronze, iron, or stone patinas, they ground ephemeral materials in a sense of timelessness, bridging the fleeting and the eternal through form and texture.
