Ilona Johnson

Ilona Johnson is a mixed-media fine artist based at her studio in West Suffolk. She trained at Hornsey and Maidstone College of Art, and was later accepted to the Royal College of Art for environmental media studies.

She works across printmaking, painting, drawing and collage, often incorporating found objects. Much of her recent work focuses on place and landscape — in particular the way light and shape inform their character — alongside a continuing interest in how people affect the places they inhabit, and the legacies they leave behind.

She has exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Mall Gallery in London, at Walthamstow Museum, at Gainsborough's House in Suffolk and at The Minories in Colchester. She has received prizes from the Reed Gallery in London and from Walthamstow Museum, and her work has been bought by both museums and private collectors.

Alongside her practice, Ilona worked as an art psychotherapist for thirty years. She holds an MA in Art Psychotherapy (St Albans) and an MA in Visual Theory (University of East London).
