Daphne McCartney-Williams
Daphne McCartney-Williams is an artist living in the countryside near Bures, who continues to play and explore with materials, often collecting found objects from the coast and country paths to use as artistic tools.
She trained in watercolour painting under the Japanese teacher Kaji Aso, learning the direct application of paint and colour layering that keeps a fresh vision. She now works in mixed media, with gesso, acrylic, oil sticks and pastels, on wood panel, canvas and textured papers, surfaces that offer her freedom of expression.
An art historian who worked in museum curating, she has had exposure to many brilliant artworks in situ, and appreciates the wealth that artwork brings to our cultural lives.
Artist Statement
I am a lifelong artist, currently working with mixed media to create effects that visualise concepts of spaciousness, ongoing changes in nature, and the inner spiritual light. Bringing calm and joy to a viewer, through colour, texture, shape and themes, is my endeavour. As a yoga and meditation teacher, my practice and teaching of yoga interweave comfortably with my artistic vision.
