Clare Powell

Clare Powell studied BA Fine Art at Cape Town University in South Africa, with Botany as her BSc subject.

Coming to live in England in the mid 1960s she worked in fashion at the International Wool Secretariat, and was then Publicity Officer for De Beers, the diamond company, with the aim of promoting modern jewellery design.

Marriage and two daughters later found her painting again as she travelled round Europe as an Army wife. She taught watercolour and oil painting, and learnt the joys of silk painting, which she then taught.

She moved to Suffolk in 2020 and is an active member of Clare Art Club and the Suffolk Art Society, of which she was Chairman for twelve years. She exhibits regularly with both groups and accepts commissions.

Artist Statement

I have always loved painting flowers and landscapes. In my work I concentrate on colour, design and atmosphere.

In watercolours I enjoy letting the paint tell the story. In my acrylic work I enjoy the use of texture to add dimension to the painting.
