John Bawtree

John Bawtree is a British painter in oil and watercolour who lives in Peasenhall, Suffolk, when he is not travelling. He qualified as an architect before deciding to paint full time.

He received a Greenshield Foundation Award in 1978, the year of his first London exhibition, held in Mayfair, and has since had more than forty one-man shows alongside occasional architectural work, murals and illustration for television. His most successful exhibitions have been at the Piers Feetham Gallery in London, the Melitensia Gallery in Malta and the Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery.

He has taken many commissions, among them sixty-five paintings made over five years for ANZ Grindlays Bank for reproduction in calendars, and three dozen paintings of the Middle East for Gulf Greetings in Dubai, which used them to begin their Heritage Series of cards. His work sold at auction for the first time at Christie's in South Kensington in January 2005.

His painting is grouped by place and kind: Venice, France, Greece, Malta, the United Kingdom, Africa and the Middle East, interiors, and trompe l'oeil.
