Bob Bicknell-Knight
Bob Bicknell-Knight (b. 1996, Ipswich) is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and writer working across installation, sculpture, video, painting and digital media. His practice explores time, control and degradation, the underlying mechanics of video-game worlds, and the power structures of online life and new technology, drawing on themes of surveillance capitalism, hyper-consumerism, climate collapse and self-digitisation. He completed a BA (Hons) Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, London (2015-2018, First Class Honours) and is undertaking an MA in Contemporary Art at the Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn (2024-2026). In May 2016 he founded and directs isthisit?, a platform specialising in digital art through which he curates online and offline exhibitions, runs an occasional residency programme, and edits publications. Selected solo exhibitions include Asset Flip (SEAGER, London, 2024), Insert Coin (Cable Depot, London, 2023) and Non-Player Character (Galeria Kollektiva, Kassel, 2022); recent group presentations span venues including Tate Modern and Ars Electronica. His residencies include SARUYA (Japan, 2023), High House (UK, 2022) and Hybrida (Sweden, 2021). Awards include a Jerwood Arts 1:1 Fund (2021, with Rosa-Maria Nuutinen) and an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant (2020).
Artist Statement
I try to create work that has multiple layers of understanding. Work that, in a way, rewards those that choose to spend more time with it, uncovering certain conceptual elements and symbolic choices.
