Ashley Saunders
Ashley Saunders is originally from St Albans and is now based in the Suffolk countryside, where the rhythms of rural life provide daily inspiration. She is a self-taught artist with a deep love of animals and nature, and she paints expressive, light-hearted work celebrating the charm and character of farmyard and country animals.
Her route into art has always been driven by a love of the outdoors and the creatures that live in it, and was strengthened by a period working at an animal sanctuary in the Lake District. Caring for animals there deepened her understanding of their personalities and their soulful presence, and that shows in the paintings. Suffolk's sweeping fields, woodlands and wildlife are her daily material, while regular family visits to the Lake District continue to feed the work.
Her originals, limited editions and prints are stocked by galleries and stores across the United Kingdom.
Artist Statement
By using a mixture of acrylic paints and pastels, I try to capture the soul and character of all the animals I paint and give each of them their own individual, quirky personality. I like to keep my art work light and fun in the hope that it can spark a smile.
