Yasmin Eliz Ozyilmaz
Yasmin Eliz Ozyilmaz is a multidisciplinary artist and printmaker with a background in illustration. Born in 2001, she completed an MA in Print at the Royal College of Art.
Artist Statement
Drawing on her English and Turkish heritage, Yasmin's practice explores identity, transformation, and the feminine experience through recurring motifs of abstracted figurative forms in the natural world. She creates delicate, emotive works that reflect an evolving sense of self and the complexities of personal growth.
Her early imagery was inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne. Rather than viewing Daphne's transformation into a laurel tree as a tragic ending, Yasmin reclaims it as an act of becoming. Motifs of nature emerge from the human form to symbolise resilience, growth, and an evolving sense of identity.
Her recent practice reflects on what happens when transformation slows, examining repetition, stagnation, and deterioration as equally formative experiences. Through experimental screen printing, she explores layered imagery and abstraction, moving away from precise registration to embrace overlapping forms. By allowing the printmaking process to embody these cycles, her work explores how repeated actions and experiences shape, erode, and transform identity over time. Through tactile layers and symbolic forms she invites viewers to reflect on the nonlinear nature of transformation and the possibility of renewal through change.
