Jo Shepherd

Jo Shepherd is a landscape painter based in Norfolk, living not far from the coast. Working primarily in oils and often with a palette knife, she paints land, sea and sky, inspired by the vast Norfolk and Suffolk skies, the long coastlines and the varied landscapes of the region. Her paintings set out to capture fleeting moments: shifting light, evolving cloud formations and the wind moving through the grasses, often in the fields and reedbeds close to her home.

She works in oil on canvas, board and paper, sometimes building the surface with pastel and mineral pigments, and alongside her larger paintings makes small, spontaneous works on paper and sketches in watercolour, gouache, charcoal and oil pastel. Before moving to Norfolk she lived in London. Her work has been shown at the Fisher Theatre Gallery and Broad Street Gallery in Bungay, and in 2026 a painting of hers was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

She also teaches painting workshops and classes, and takes commissions.
