Haley Craw

Haley Craw was born in Calgary, Canada, where she took a BFA with Distinction in drawing at the Alberta University of the Arts. She moved to England and is now based in Norwich, and she has exhibited in both the United Kingdom and Canada, with solo shows at Hungate Medieval Art in Norwich and The Campbell Gallery in Eye, and group work shown as far afield as the Art Gallery of NWT in Yellowknife.

On the threshold between the internal and the external world, her unruly figures inhabit a paradoxical realm that they refuse to fully define. Her creative process runs through drawing, painting and performance, led by embodied knowledge and responding intuitively to the raw material of vulnerability, longing and curiosity. She approaches painting as a process that embraces the condition of transformation itself, where somatic expression acts as an alchemical refiner of emotion and sensation.

Feminist literature, medieval women, folklore and mysticism feed the work, and through them she explores the permeable boundary between the witch and the saint. Animal familiars root the figures in the earth, their characteristics guiding a path with instinct, sensitivity and wild protective care. By embracing instability, the body intertwines with the spirit, and perception remains fluid, shifting and dissolving.
