Simon Brooke

Working under the name 'Spitting Atoms', Simon Brooke creates intricate black-and-white drawings from dense layers of marks, patterns and lettering. Viewed from a distance, these fragments coalesce into bold images - skulls, monstera leaves and geometric forms - while up close, each composition reveals a mass of fine detail.

Brooke held a solo exhibition at Mike Rowe Gallery in Norwich in 2024, exhibited at the Spring Art Show at The Forum, Norwich, in 2026, and shows with The Lonely Arts Club, most recently with his film "Grief No. 04' an experimental animated film. This work revisits the hours after learning of his mother's sudden death. Developed from a short experimental text and a carefully constructed soundtrack drawn from music that resonated with those first moments of grief, the animation became a way of returning to memories that have remained vivid over time. Through layered imagery and intuitive mark-making, it explores the fragmented, visceral experience of loss and the emotional landscape that follows life-changing events.
