Lizzie Kimbley

Lizzie Kimbley is a textile artist and designer based in Norfolk, working primarily with hand-woven textiles alongside basketry, hand-stitching, natural dyeing and cordage-making. Walking and a connection to place run through her practice, and she gathers plants on walks in the Norfolk landscape to make her own natural dyes. Sustainability and circular design are central to her work, which uses natural, locally sourced or repurposed materials, including waste offcuts and industry surplus.

She studied at Norwich University of the Arts, gaining a First Class BA in Textile Design in 2017 and an MA in Textile Design with distinction in 2019, followed by a PG Certificate in Higher Education in 2022. She has been a part-time Lecturer in Textile Design at Norwich University of the Arts since 2020 and also works as a workshop facilitator.

Her work has been shown in group exhibitions including at the Royal Academy of Arts, London Craft Week and Norwich Castle, and she has undertaken residencies with GroundWork Gallery and the Broads Authority. Her Walking Wheatfen Winter series was shortlisted for the Vlieseline Fine Art Textiles Award in 2020 and was commissioned for the Broads Authority's Water Mills and Marshes project, shown in the Woven Waters exhibition. Awards and recognition include an a-n Artists' Bursary, an Arts Council England award and Crafts Council Hothouse selection.
