Original Projects
We're big fans of this pioneering project which was way ahead of its time when it was founded. It's a shapeshifting kunsthalle and creative industry catalyst, curating its own shows while letting other creatives take over its spaces. It's always unexpected, heterogenous and ambitious. Most of all, it's as much about nurturing the creative community as it is about putting on public exhibitions. If anything, the former is their main raison d'être. Every lover of contemporary art should visit it at least once, because it's a beacon of creative entrepreneurship in the East of England.
Original Projects (originalprojects;) is an artist-led organisation in Great Yarmouth, founded in 2016 to explore how generosity, creativity and place connect. Collaborating with contemporary artists and local communities, it co-produces exhibitions, public commissions, workshops, studio provision, conferences, podcasts and a sonic arts festival - forming lasting relationships and helping people build skills and confidence through contemporary art. Its public base is PRIMEYARC, a community arts hub in the former Debenhams at Market Gates, home to galleries, artist studios and creative spaces. A registered charity, it puts on free, welcoming exhibitions together with a wide-ranging events programme across the town.
