Artist Statement
I work with abstraction and expression. Drawing, printmaking and collage combine through gesture and geometry. In my monoprints I use simple motifs. The circle, square and rectangle – they recur and repeat in variation. Drawing freehand in ink creates their sense of movement. Experimentation is key.
When making collage I use a variety of materials; torn and cut paper, hot wax and assorted tapes, poured and splattered ink and paint, layers of found material and my own mark-making. Something emerges out of nothing.
I love to make individual pieces, starting without any predetermined outcome. Wandering through my thoughts matters but acting in the here and now keeps the work intuitive, fresh and flowing. As each work evolves, it takes on its own energy and final form. That is what I find most exciting!
