Not All Who Wander Are Lost: Heather Guthrie and Helen Derbyshire

Helen Derbyshire and Heather Guthrie are members of the Art Depot NR3 Collective in Norwich. While they have worked alongside each other and exhibited with the wider Art Depot group since 2018, they have never before exhibited in a two-person show. On the surface, their work looks entirely different and yet, unexpectedly, they complement each other as artists. This exhibition is about wandering - wandering in a physical sense as well as wandering metaphorically, with both artists exploring a variety of innovative materials, methods and techniques.

Helen's focus is on nature, mainly on the paths and landscapes she encounters on long meditative walks in the Suffolk countryside. Her work evokes memory of places and personal experiences held in time.

Conversely, Heather's work is abstract, mined from an inner landscape, concerned with capturing spontaneous gesture and expression. In working with simple forms and highly worked up surfaces, her work in print, drawing and collage shares a similarly meditative quality. Both artists are on a continuous journey of exploration and discovery - wandering with purpose.
