Jacqui Jones
Jacqui Jones is an interdisciplinary environmental artist based in Norwich, Norfolk, working in installation, sculpture and mixed media. She holds a BA in Visual Studies (2008) and an MA in Fine Art (2019), both from Norwich University of the Arts.
She has been involved with the Millennium Alliance for Humanity and the Biosphere at Stanford University for several years, and has held a residency with GroundWork Gallery on the Wash Estuary. She trained as a Climate Ambassador at the University of East Anglia and regularly produces workshops on environmental themes. She is a member of the Lonely Arts Club.
Artist Statement
Art is the language I use to express a feeling, an idea, a narrative, it's the way I navigate the world. The work comes about via research, experimentation and solitary conversations I have with myself, ultimately I hope the dialogue extends to others.
It's important for the work to have layers of meaning, often the objects used or created are metaphorical but they also have an aesthetic appeal. The viewer doesn't have to understand it all at first glance but at second and third glance other levels may be revealed.
I don't really think of myself as an activist. I'm quite an introvert but I do care about the environment and climate crisis deeply and obviously its impact for this and the next generation. We need scientific data but an artwork can communicate in ways that arouses curiosity, conversation and action.
