Sara McLaughlin
Sara McLaughlin is a printmaker and painter with her own studio in Wenhaston, Suffolk. Born in Coventry, the daughter of an artist, she learned to paint and draw from an early age. After moving to London, where she had a long career in refugee education and brought up a family, she decided to focus on her art more seriously and completed a two-year fine art course at the City Lit in 2014.
She has since concentrated on etching and carborundum printing as a member of Sudbourne Park Printmakers, exhibiting with the group twice a year, and she is a member of the Islington Art Society. She shows her work in solo and group exhibitions. Alongside her printmaking and painting she makes ceramics, and is a member of Anglian Potters.
Artist Statement
I mostly work in London and Suffolk and am interested in the places where industry or ex-industry meets wildness, places of dynamic change. I use oils, acrylics and pen and ink to create landscapes and cityscapes, often drawing on the spot in the company of my dog, and then using sketches and photos in the studio to develop my ideas.
My printmaking is also based on places I know and love in coastal Suffolk.
