Ronald Hellen
Ronald Hellen studied at Maidstone College of Art before completing his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools, where he was taught by Edward Bawden and Peter Greenham. These early influences helped shape his distinctive and thoughtful approach to painting.
His work has been widely exhibited, including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, the New English Art Club, and in exhibitions across the South Coast and East Anglia. He is a member of Colchester Art Society.
Influenced by artists such as Christopher Wood, Eric Ravilious, John Piper and particularly Paul Nash, Ronald work carries a timeless, contemplative quality.
Artist Statement
Ronald Hellen’s paintings explore a deep sense of place, capturing the unique atmosphere of buildings and landscapes, often those that feel slightly out of place within their surroundings. Drawn to coastal locations, his work reflects the character of the shorelines of Kent, Sussex and Suffolk, where unusual and quietly striking architecture becomes his focus.
