Mary-Louise Owen
Mary-Louise Owen is an abstract painter based in Halesworth, Suffolk. Her practice has two strands: acrylic pour paintings, and abstract compositions built from layered shapes and colour. She studied Design for Multimedia at the University of Wolverhampton from 2006 to 2009.
Before returning to her own practice, Owen worked in community arts. At Suffolk Artlink she supported adults with a range of needs in making artwork, and with I Made This she supported children with learning needs and autism in creating stop-frame animation.
She returned to painting during the Covid lockdowns of 2020, and has since developed her work through online tutorials and visits to galleries, principally in London. In the pour paintings, the unpredictability of the process means that no two works are alike; the abstract compositions are built up in layers of shape and colour.
Owen has exhibited at The Forum, Norwich, in 2022, 2023 and 2026, and undertakes commissions.
