Demelza Fanshawe

Demelza Fanshawe is a process painter and sculptor based in Colchester, Essex. She works from Studio 20 at Cuckoo Farm Studios, where she was Graduate Awardee for 2024/25.

A previous career spanning 22 years in the British military shapes her work. A principal theme is her relationship to that military past, to family, to society and to spirit of place, and she combines those elements in her practice whether she is working in two dimensions or three. She counts the Great War artists John and Paul Nash among her influences, along with contemporary artists including Dame Phyllida Barlow and Cornelia Parker.
