Alex Curry

Alex Curry is an artist based in rural Suffolk. Born in London and brought up in the British Virgin Islands, he studied fine art at Winchester and Norwich Schools of Art before moving to Suffolk, where he has lived for over twenty years.

His work currently revolves around drawing and sculptural reliefs, including oak panels inlaid with steel that depict the East Anglian coastal estuaries. Created with hand-cut and wrought metal, and treated with various harsh chemicals, the process is in contrast to the benign landscapes they depict. He also draws large industrial and architectural structures, transmitters, and electrical installations isolated against a plain background in order to appreciate their intricate forms, and highlight the issues of information, energy and resources.

He is represented by Gallery East, Woodbridge, and has been part of various exhibitions, including the SGFA at the Mall Galleries, the Summer Contemporary, Snape, and has had three drawings commissioned for public spaces in the converted BBC Television Centre in London. He has also worked as a stone carver's assistant producing contemporary sculpture and architectural stonework. Alongside his artistic practice, he designs and builds timber frame buildings and studio spaces.
