Snape Maltings (Britten Pears Arts)

Britten Pears Arts is a music and arts charity founded on the legacy of the composer Benjamin Britten and the tenor Peter Pears, with bases at Snape Maltings and the Red House in Aldeburgh. Centred on the celebrated Snape Maltings Concert Hall (opened 1967) and the yearly Aldeburgh Festival, it is first and foremost a music organisation, but it also curates a regular programme of visual-art exhibitions across its Suffolk sites.

Snape Maltings is also home to a remarkable body of sculpture, placed across its buildings, lawns and reed-bed marshes since 1967. Among the artists represented are Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gary Hume, Sarah Lucas and Ryan Gander - including Hepworth's The Family of Man (1970), on permanent loan as a memorial to Britten and Pears, and Gander's To Give Light (Northern Aspirational Charms) (2018), ten glow-in-the-dark concrete sculptures celebrating Northern innovation. All can be seen for free while wandering the riverside site.
