Kate Giles: Solid Air
30 May 2026 – 28 Jun 2026
Editor's pickRecommended
An Aldeburgh Festival exhibition at Snape Maltings showing recent paintings by Kate Giles. The work responds to and reinterprets Jacob van Ruisdael's 'View of Haarlem with Bleaching Grounds' (c.1670–75), setting the seventeenth-century 'Haarlempjes' against snatched glimpses of present-day urban development under comparable big skies along the railway line from Sloterdijk to Haarlem. Giles unites old and new through a congruent palette, catching the eye in the music and geometry of time, space and volume. The show runs alongside a twinned Giles exhibition, 'Remember Tomorrow', at Gainsborough's House, Sudbury.
