Caroline Wiseman is the doyenne of the Aldeburgh art scene and the Art House remains a beacon of world-class excellence for the entire region.
The Aldeburgh Beach Lookout is a former lookout tower on the shingle at Aldeburgh, one of only two still standing on Britain's East Coast. Lookouts once stood along the coast so that beach men could be called out to ships in distress.
In 2010 the art dealer Caroline Wiseman and her partner Francis Carnwath bought the South Lookout, together with the blue house opposite, which they named The Art House.
The Art House is like a ‘living, breathing Kettles Yard by the sea’, Telegraph Magazine, 25th May 2013. It exhibits a constantly changing selection of paintings, drawings, sculpture and original prints by important British and international artists and operates as a space for artists, writers, poets and thinkers. It is also the home of the Arts Club Aldeburgh Beach, launched in 2013, whose members are connected to Suffolk and show in its annual OPEN.
