Tobias Ford
Tobias Ford is a British sculptor based in Butley, Suffolk, where he set up his studio after graduating from Hereford College of Arts in Applied Fine Arts.
He works mainly in steel, welding fragments together by a method of his own to build figurative works, and also makes pieces in wire and plaster. Alongside the figures he makes bird sculptures, mounted on driftwood and shown outdoors.
He exhibits nationally and internationally, and accepts commissions.
Artist Statement
I aim to capture the subtle communicative properties of the body. Whilst making these figures I connect with a character or personality through the pose. Getting into the pose myself enables me to see how it feels, find the weight and make the figure by transferring into the sculpture how I physically feel. The building up of small fragments and unifying them into a form enables ambiguity to lead my eye.
