Sarah Milne
Sarah Milne lives and works in Colchester, on the Essex/Suffolk borders — an area rich in landscape, from Constable Country and the Stour Valley to its creeks, estuaries and changing coastline. She paints in oils, her studio work growing out of meditative walking and observation in these places. Inspired by Turner's Norham Castle at the Tate, she travelled to draw the Northumberland castles that Turner himself drew. Recent exhibitions (2021–2025) include The Granary at Flatford, Aldeburgh Gallery and Anteros Gallery in Norwich.
Artist Statement
I am a landscape painter, but of the inner weather as well as that which I am walking through. I am not making a representational image of a view — I'm trying to get back to that feeling behind the glimpse, that sharp intake of breath, that conversation or moment of solace: the emotional experience of passing through.
