Christine Gallant

Christine is an analogue collage artist based in Colchester, Essex, where she works from her home studio surrounded by paper, images, and materials gathered over time.

Her work begins with found paper: vintage imagery, printed ephemera, and fragments discovered in markets, online marketplaces, and charity shops.

For her, the search is as important as the making.

She is drawn to paper for its smell, texture, history, and the quiet traces of the hands it has passed through. She can lose hours browsing through old books, magazines, and printed matter, sometimes pausing to read a line or follow a story, until an image suddenly catches her eye and something begins to spark.

Back in the studio, she spends time sorting, cutting, and moving pieces around, allowing old images to find new connections. She rarely knows exactly where a piece will end up when she begins; the compositions usually reveal themselves slowly, through trial, attention, and intuition. For her, collage is a quiet and meditative process. It offers space to reimagine familiar images and create new stories from materials that have already lived other lives.

She often leaves her work untitled, inviting each viewer to bring their own memories, associations, and stories to what they see.
