Lynn Foster
Lynn Foster is a sculptor and glass artist who lives and works in Colchester and London. Originally from America, she began working as a glass artist in 2014 after two years of adult education courses, and works almost exclusively in hand-rolled Bullseye glass, drawn by its range of colours and finishes: transparent, opaque, iridescent and streaky.
Wanting frames and stands for her glass sculpture that were as distinctive as the pieces themselves, she enrolled in a sculpture workshop and began working with steel sheet and rod. Her metal sculpture has since grown into its own body of work, some of it incorporating found objects, bicycle parts in particular, and some combining wood, plaster, metal and ceramics. Most recently she has been making intricately shaped hanging sculptures from industrial aluminium, designed to hang from the ceiling, to mount on a wall or to hang outdoors.
Artist Statement
As befits my slightly off centre take on most things, I am determined to create works that are themselves just slightly off-centre. That makes each piece totally distinctive, which I hope will appeal to collectors as much as it does to me.
These days, too many "things" are off the peg, capable of being bought over the internet because having seen one, you know exactly what the next one will be like, perhaps with only a variation in colour. I hope my pieces will appeal to those who want something different, something expressive of the maker, rather than something mass produced or formulaic.
