Mavina Baker

Mavina Baker is an artist printmaker, book artist and bookbinder based on Mersea Island, Essex, where she works from her garden print studio, Teacup Press.

Her practice is rooted in the physical processes of making, with hand-printed woodcut and linocut at its heart. She also works with letterpress, collage and bookmaking, creating prints and limited edition artists’ books that explore landscape, memory and the passing of time.

Living beside the Essex coast, Mavina is particularly drawn to the fragile landscapes of tidal saltmarsh, mudflats and shoreline, and to the birds and marine life that inhabit them. Her work often reflects on themes of transience, connection and change, using the rhythms of the natural world as both subject and metaphor.

She holds an MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England, Bristol. Her work is held in collections including UWE Bristol, the University for the Creative Arts and Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Michigan and Columbia University.
