Joe Davey
Joe is a self-taught charcoal artist and oil painter based in Ipswich, Suffolk. His work often focuses on finding striking moments of light and atmosphere in everyday life. He has regularly exhibited across Suffolk, with solo shows at 142 Gallery, Felixstowe, and at Artspace, Woodbridge.
Experimentation through drawing has always been at the heart of Joe's practice, pushing him to try new techniques and new media. Seeking out the work of the old masters has provided him with endless inspiration when working on portraits and urban landscapes.
At the age of 31, Joe decided to follow his childhood passion, studying Animation & Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
Artist Statement
I want to always be looking at the world with fresh eyes. The images I make are usually a reflection of how I feel when I'm out in the world, when there are flashes of beauty that pass by all too quickly. Only through drawing can I get close to capturing the real magic of life and make that feeling permanent.
